This stunning fresco depicts the arrival of the Gospel to the natives of Alaska.
Saints Herman, Juvenaly, and Innocent were the first saints of the Orthodox Church to shine forth in the wilderness of Alaska. With a missionary spirit desiring to share the truth of Christ with those in darkness, these luminaries entered among the native Aleut peoples between the late 18th century and the mid 19th century.
They brought the Orthodox Christian faith, as well as literacy to the natives, who are depicted on the right side of the icon in their traditional dress, together with their local wildlife. Their hands are open to receive the Gospel, the Church, and the leadership of the faith, symbolized by the objects held by the saints. Their halo is joined together, emphasizing the singular divine evangelic purpose that all three men undertook and led over the course of nearly 150 years.
Legacy Icons exclusively offers this replica icon to honor these early Orthodox Saints of North America. Give it a prominent place in your home as you pray for our North American land, and be inspired by their missionary work that they entreat us to continue today
