This historic Russian icon depicts the meeting of St. Thomas the Apostle and the Risen Christ a week after the Resurrection. According to the Gospel account, Thomas said that he would not believe in Christ’s resurrection until he touches his beloved Lord’s wounds from the Crucifixion. This icon captures the emotion and glory of this event where Christ gives Thomas that opportunity.
This icon is part of the festive row of the iconostasis of the Assumption Cathedral of St. Cyril Belozersky Monastery. It was painted in the 16th century.
