The path towards love begins with the observance of the commandments which gradually purifies the heart, engraves the form of Christ therein and attracts grace. The vision of the meek and lowly Christ throws the fire of divine love into the innermost recesses of man. When the law of love for God and neighbour makes its abode in the heart, all the commandments are fulfilled at once in a perfect measure, and the wondrous promise of Christ is accomplished: ‘He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father…, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.’
